In 1694, in the middle of the hall, a high, double bookcase was made, protected from the public on both sides by a railing. The bookcases on the walls now had doors of metal-gauze. At the back, on the south side of the library and above the entrance was a gallery with bookcases in which primarily manuscripts were kept. This was to remain the situation until 1819. origineel: source: Les delices de Leide, une des célèbres villes de l'Europe, qui contiennent une de description exacte de son antiquité...Le tout enrichi de tailles douces. - Leiden: Pierre van der Aa, 1712 ©description: Dr Jos A A M Biemans Leiden ©reproduction: Leiden Universiteitsbibliotheek |
