contents: From about 1635, publishers engaged less and less often prominent, contemporary printmakers for their book illustrations. They preferred to make use of reprints or copies of older examples. This Roman Catholic edition of the Bible from the Amsterdam publisher Pieter Jacobsz Paets, for instance, has no original illustrations, but woodcuts by the Van Sichem family, based on the 16th-century examples after Hans Holbein the Younger and Jan van de Velde II.
