contents: Machine-driven paper mill 'De Eendragt' in 1880, with to the right a mill, demolished in 1892. The Zaanstreek (Zaan area) had been of old a paper-producing area. Machine-made paper gradually ousted the traditional hand-made paper because it was cheaper and could be supplied faster and in large quantities. The price of all sorts of paper decreased between 1880 and 1900 by a quarter to a third.
