contents: Traditionally the sorting of rags for paper making was done by women. It was a dirty job, for the rags were full of dust and dirt, even though they had already been cleaned. This photograph shows that the rags are lying on a grid. The worst dirt and dust that had remained disappeared through this grid and fell into a bin.
