The stories were usually about heroic events which served as examples for the readers. Top left a novel which is placed in Friesland at the time of Willibrord, on the right an illustration by Johan Braakensiek (Jacoba of Bavaria fled in knight's clothing) from a very well known book by P. Louwerse. At the lower left two pages from a book: "De zoon van den zeerover. Hoe de Nederlandsche Republiek groot werd", with a lithograph by P.W.M. Trap and, on the right, a chapter from a book about the Franco-Prussian war of 1870 with a distinct illustration.
