contents: In the 18th century, French book illustrations were much admired and imitated in Europe. Jan Huchtenburg (1647-1733), a famous Dutch painter of battlefields and military life at the time, had worked in the Gobelin manufacture in Paris under supervision of Charles le Brun. Later on he served under Prince Eugene of Savoy for some years and made a number of paintings of his battles and the spectacular engravings published in this book.
