contents: As there was a lot of competition every year among the publishers of almanacs, they thought up all kinds of specialities to increase the attractiveness of their products. In the Toilet Almanac for 1799 the calendar has strips with the months printed on them which could be folded away to the side. Underneath there were hand-coloured illustrations of the seasons and appropriate verses. 'Toilet' in the title refers to ladies clothing. A 'toilet almanac' was a small almanac which could be carried by the owner when she entered into social life in full 'toilet'.
