contents: The apology of William of Orange is one of the most important political writings from the Eighty Years' War. Like most surviving 16th-century books, this pamphlet is fairly small. It not only appeared in Dutch, but also in French, German, English and Spanish and consequently had an enormous circulation. Everyone in Europe had to be able to read William's defence against his being declared an outlaw.
