contents: This book is the oldest printed work about the bookbinder's profession in the Netherlands. Hendrik de Haas (1732-1809), born and bred in Dordrecht, was not only a bookbinder, but also a bookseller and publisher. He had started his manual in the 1780s. He gives a clear idea of the work of a bookbinder in the 18th century and of the techniques that had been used in the Netherlands for centuries.
