(illustrator) Van Leer (graveur/engraver) year: ca. 1890 type: advertentie advertisement detail: nee dimensions: 14,5 x 16,5 cm related terms: reclame kranten period: 19e eeuw classification: G: Boekhandel en uitgeverij contents: This advertising card from around 1890 shows a number of well-known politicians sitting in a coach, reading "De Amsterdammer", a daily newspaper. In the 19th century it became more and more usual to advertise for books and periodicals. Screaming slogans, offering windfalls or recommendations (true or not) by well-known figures were then - as now - current sales promotion tricks. In addition to advertising in papers and periodicals, posters in shops, prospectuses, circular letters and cards like this one were also used. origineel: ©description: Den Haag Koninklijke Bibliotheek ©reproduction: Amsterdam Bibliotheek KVB Universiteitsbibliotheek UVA |
