contents: One of the letterpress presses used by the `N.V. Boekhandel en Drukkerij, formerly E.J. Brill' in Leiden. A platen press is used for the production of small printed matter (such as writing paper and circular letters). The platen is a flat plate against which the paper is laid and which presses the paper to the forme with the inked lead composition so that an impression can be made.
